Escapes on the Run
What is it?
Escapes on the run is a mobile escape room that can travel to you for personal, business, or fundraising purposes! They are perfect for parties, team building activities, employee engagement, and fundraising!
What did we do?
A group of two other students and I were given a task by Escapes on the Run. They wanted a city-wide scavenger hunt for 2019 in the city of Fishers. My group created an entire mock amazing race for this company finding potential sponsors, creating mock routes, creating prizes, figure out transportation, and organizing how the game would work!
Why I was drawn to it?
I was drawn to this challenge because I have lived in this town my entire life. Over the past few years we have grown exponentially and have transformed from a town to a city. I feel like over that time we lost our sense of connection and community ad I thought this event would help bring people together again!
What we learned in our initial interviews?
In our initial interviews we learned about what the company was and understood the task more at hand. We also used the initial meetings to discuss research that we did on other cities that had done this successfully and applied aspects in ways that could be used in Fishers.
What are the ideas we ended up proposing?
We ended up proposing ideas of many different aspects of the event and this is what we came up with...

- QR codes at each station (each sponsor will be a station)
- The QR code will give them a clue of where to go next and clue to solve initial puzzle.
- No driving cars.
- Lime Scooters will be provided (this will be included with the price). Lime Scooters are cheaper than Bird Scooters and can be driven by anyone 16 and over. Having Lime Scooters will also be a good trial run for how if they permanently be used in Fishers.
- People can also bring their own bikes or walk instead of scooters.
- Top 10 winning groups get sweatshirts with all the sponsors on it
- Everybody gets t-shirt (if they pay for it in their package).
- Top 3 groups will get huge gift baskets with gifts from each of the sponsors.
- The end goal is to solve the initial puzzle your team is given in the beginning.
- Every stop will have a puzzle you have to solve to get closer to solving initial task.
- Every stop will also have clue on where to go next.
What was my favorite part?
My favorite part was actually organizing the mock scavenger hunt. Figuring out sponsors and actually creating/organizing the event. Being creative and combining all of our ideas to actually create an event that might happen was the best part.
What did I struggled with?
Something that I struggled with was figuring out what our community partner wanted from us at certain points. Sometimes they weren't very clear on what they wanted us to do and present to them for some of our meetings. But in the end we worked out our communication issues and presented them with ideas they were every pleased with.
What would I do next time?
Next time I would definitely improve the communication between our group and community partner. Because we were stumped at points at not knowing what they wanted from us, I would have made sure our communication was clearer in order to not have those problems.
